Hello there, fellow wanderer!
If you’ve arrived on this page, it must mean you’re curious about Gnome & Bone Magazine, and I must say, that prospect delights me. You’ve found the right place if you are an aspiring fantasy writer, and I am genuinely thrilled to have lured you this far.
Today marks the beginning of my quest: the proper launch of Gnome & Bone and the search for writers with truly epic tales. I undertake this mission from my “office” in the mortal world, where I also serve as editor-in-chief of my college newspaper. We still call it a newspaper, though we no longer print—a melancholy reality, made all the more poignant as it began the year I joined. Still, I find immense pleasure in this work. It’s quiet, relaxing, and I have a tiny Dumbledore snow globe beside me to keep me company.
I cannot wait to read all of your stories. I’ve read my own manuscripts at least a hundred times, and I’m ready for new words. I love my polished manuscript—it’s a story I worked on for six months, but honestly… I’m starting to tire of reading my protagonist navigate the same problems over and over. I get it, girl (I wrote you) but you’re starting to bore me.
The story I’m currently writing, though, is thrilling. You know you’re onto something when the chapters come to you every night. That’s actually how I fall asleep. I imagine every path my protagonist could take, daydream each possibility into oblivion, and then I write the one that makes me want to leap out of bed at 2 a.m. to type it in the dark. That’s the kind of story that keeps me alive, the kind that makes writing feel like magic.
Give your story a home here. I promise to adore it. Let’s create a magical first issue together.
Warmly,
Lady Bones.
